This has been a very memorable 2020. I could go on about the crazy stuff that has happened negatively, but this blog is going to focus on the positive. We had a successful 2019-20 regular season by winning the MIAC championship, but none of that would have been possible without some big individual performances throughout the season as well. This blog is meant to highlight our four individual season awards that were voted on by the players. Our four season awards are Most Improved, Hard Hat, Freshman of the Year and Most Valuable Player.
Most Improved Player – Russell Harren

The most improved award this year went to Russell Harren. Russ had a great year this year, going from playing one game his freshman season to playing 19 games this year for the Johnnies. Russ brought a physical presence to every game and also played with a ton of energy that filtered down the bench. He was also able to contribute 2 goals and 2 assists, including a big goal against St. Thomas at their building when we won 4-0. I am really looking forward to what Russ brings to the team in the 2020-21 season.
Hard Hat Award – Tanner Dufault

The hard hat award went to Tanner Dufault. Tanner is another player that plays every game hard and physical. He brings total effort in every game. He does all the little things that help teams win. He works hard in practice and leads with his effort. Tanner also does this all while majoring in nursing and doing his clinicals throughout the season. He is a great player and an even better person. Tanner is looking to have a big senior season coming up in 2020-21.
Freshman of the Year – Auggie Moore

The freshman of the year award went to Auggie Moore. Auggie had a spectacular freshman season, scoring 11 goals, 17 assists and leading the Johnies with 27 points. Many of his points came in the crunch time of the season, as he scored 16 points in the final 10 regular-season games. He also had a 7-point weekend against Saint Mary’s that helped us earn the regular-season championship. Auggie had a great freshman season and I am very excited that we get to see him play another 3 years!
Most Valuable Player – Andrew Lindgren
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_BtwIUYYE0
The most valuable player award this year went to Andrew Lindgren. This season was Andrew’s third year as an All-MIAC selection, and the second year in a row being voted as the team’s MVP. He finished this season with a 92% save percentage and an 8-8-2 record. The reason Andrew was voted MVP was his play down the stretch of the season. He went 6-1-0 in the last 7 games, including series sweeps against Saint Mary’s and Gustavus. A couple highlights for him this year was his 47-save performance in a 6-2 win against Gustavus and his 45-save performance in the 5-2 win over Augsburg. Andrew has been our backbone the past 3 years and he will be greatly missed next season.
All four of these guys had great years and we will need them to step up again next year. We are excited to see how Mac Berglove does coming in as the #1 goalie with the loss of Andrew. We have a great nucleous of returning players and I am excited to see how this team and the individuals on the team continue to improve.
Thanks for the support and for following Johnnie Hockey!
