The golf outing took place this past Friday, and we had a record turnout for the event. After two weeks of calling and texting alumni to sign up for the event, we ended up getting cut off by the course with 128 golfers and 32 groups. The course ran out of carts and we are planning to have some extra carts ordered for next year to try and get two groups on each hole for a total of 36 groups and 144 golfers.
We especially had a great turnout from the alumni that graduated in the 80’s. See the picture below of this group. This also included their coach Denny Hartman who coached at SJU from 1981-1988. We had a ton of fun on this day, but we also raised a lot of money for SJU Hockey. This year we raised around $15,000 for the program. We are going to use this money to purchase the guys more sticks, so they don’t have to take money out of their own pockets to buy extra sticks, and we are also going to use some of the money to help fund a full time assistant coach this year in Cory Thorson. These are the types of things that events like this allow me to provide the SJU Hockey student athletes. These are also the types of things that help me recruit the next crop of Johnnie Hockey players.
The next blog will have some information about our incoming freshmen class and give you all a look into our pre-season and what the guys do to get ready for the start of the season.
