It is now August and time to start looking forward to the 2018-19 season. This will be my first blog of the upcoming season. Between now and the start of the season (October 8th), I will be getting you updates on the incoming recruiting class, the returning players and all the pre-season activities that go on.
The purpose of this blog is to promote the 2018 SJU Hockey Golf Outing coming up on Friday, August 24th, at Monticello Country Club. The golf outing is the only time we get together to raise money for the hockey team.
I want to take a second and let everyone know that the hockey golf outing is the second-largest golf outing on the SJU campus, after the entire alumni event that happens over the summer. We have worked hard to increase the numbers every year and to continue to raise a lot of money for the program.
In the past, we have had well over 100 golfers with last year bringing in 109. My personal goal is to grow this event to the max 144 golfers with 36 groups of four.
The money raised through this event goes directly towards improving the overall experience of the players. Last year, we used the funds raised to help pay for the trip the team made to Japan this past May. We also used the money to allow us to purchase the best sticks and equipment for our players.
This year we are going to talk about how the money raised will also help to bring a full-time assistant coach to SJU Hockey. Recruiting has become very competitive and we have to cover a lot of ground with junior hockey players being found across North America. I also want to be able to give the players more feedback and personal attention through individual video sessions and meetings that are difficult to have when it is just the head coach around during the day.
There are two ways to support this event.
1. Attend the event and golf with family and friends of SJU Hockey. This includes bringing your friends along and trying to put together a team of 4 to help increase our numbers.

2. Support the event from afar with sponsorships. We offer multiple sponsorship levels that you can see in the link below. This is a great opportunity to promote your business. We have also had graduating class years sponsor a hole together.
